Starlink is being used in Ukraine thanks to shedloads of doners and US miliary cash. Musk originally supported Ukraine and even challenged that nice Mr Putin to single combat over the invasion. Then as Musk moved towards supporting right-wing causes on his newly bought Twitter he suddenly backed pro-Russian causes.

Musk initially came up with a wonderful peace plan which he claimed would solve the whole crisis. All Ukraine had to do is surrender, stop thinking about NATO and everything would be ok. This peace plan was backed by that nice Mr Putin who named Musk as one of his favourite people and an American who he did not want to poison or throw out a window this week. 

When Ukraine told Musk where to shove his peace plan, he got very hurt and threatened to take his Starlink toys away. It was then pointed out to him that he had contributed very little to supplying Ukraine and it was doing wonders for his company PR.

Now President Gwynne Shotwell of SpaceX, which runs Starlink claims that the Musk-controlled company has taken unspecified action to prevent Ukraine's military from using Starlink technology against Russian invaders. This will prevent Ukraine using its drones to find that nice Mr Putin's army and hitting with all that nasty NATO supplied munitions. 

At a conference in Washington, D.C., Shotwell said: “We were really pleased to be able to provide Ukraine connectivity and help them in their fight for freedom. It was never intended to be weaponised. However, Ukrainians have leveraged it in ways that were unintentional and not part of any agreement."

Shotwell said SpaceX has worked to restrict Ukraine's use of Starlink for military purposes.

Another Ukrainian military official called Shotwell's statements “strange” given the well-established fact of the country's use of Starlink as a combat tool.

A top aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Mykhailo Podolyak said SpaceX needs to decide whether it is on the side of Ukraine's right to freedom or Russia's “'right' to kill & seize territories".

It was not clear whether Shotwell’s comments Wednesday were made at the urging of Musk, the founder, CEO and chief engineer of SpaceX however there is no indication of any interruption to Starlink service in Ukraine, yet.

In fact, more than 10,000 terminals provided by the German government have arrived recently. In a late December interview, Fedorov told The Associated Press that 24,000 Starlink terminals were operating in the country, most provided by donors. We suspect it is only a matter of time that Starlink is told by the US military that it has to stop messing around. Starlink has rather a lot of lucrative NATO military contracts.
