Apple fanboys have taken to Reddit to moan that the touchscreen on the iPhone 16 Pro is about as responsive as a brick wall. Users find that their taps and swipes are being ignored, making fundamental interactions like scrolling and pressing buttons a frustrating ordeal.
Interestingly, this problem doesn't seem to plague the regular iPhone 16 or the iPhone 16 Plus, just the most expensive model.
What appears to be the problem is that the much-touted thinner bezels of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are to blame. The accidental touch rejection algorithm, which is supposed to prevent unintended touches, is now so sensitive that it's rejecting actual intended touches.
Those are the features you can’t usually buy with money, but Apple fanboys can.
This software bug is triggered when users accidentally brush against the edges of the screen, causing the phone to ignore legitimate taps.
Fingers resting near the edge closest to the Camera Control button seem to be the most common culprit, but the issue can occur along any of the screen's four edges.
When this overzealous system kicks in, all new touches are ignored briefly. Naturally, this problem is exacerbated if you use the phone without a case, as cases typically add a bit of buffer around the edges.
Users have reported this annoyance on iOS 18 and the iOS 18.1 betas, so it appears to be the result of Apple’s software genie. These are the same people who wrote clock codes that could not tell the time and have given us a ton of mirth over the years. We fear that Apple will invest in a decent Q&A team and much of the joy will go from our lives.
The iPhone 16 Pro has proved to be a lemon for Apple with fewer people stumping up the cash for a new model, and those who didn’t greatly relieved with their choices.
