To be precise, Google has announced a total of three devices at the Google I/O, and in addition to the Pixel Fold and the Pixel 7a, it also announced the Pixel Tablet, a 10.95-inch tablet with Tensor G2 SoC, Titan M2 coprocessor, and bundled with charging speaker dock, a nice addition to a $499/£599/€679 device.

Pixel 7a brings a lot for $499

We'll start with the fan favorite, an a-series Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 7a has been heavily rumored and so far all those rumors were pretty spot on. You are looking at an impressive device launching at $499, which is the same price that the Pixel 6a launched at.

As expected, the Pixel 7a is pretty close to the Pixel 7, as it has a 6.1-inch OLED screen (Pixel 7 is slightly larger at 6.3 inches) with 90Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It uses the same Tensor G2 SoC with Titan M2 coprocessor, paired up with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Pixel 7a measures 152x72.9x9mm and weighs 194g, which is pretty light but not surprising as it uses a plastic back with an aluminum frame.

Google also significantly updated the main camera system, packing a 64MP main sensor behind a 26mm wide 1/1.73" lens with PDAF and OIS. It is backed up by a 13MP ultrawide sensor behind an f/2.2 lens. The front camera is a 13MP one with an ultrawide 20mm lens. It also has stereo speakers, an under-display fingerprint sensor, all the usual connectivity options, and 18W wired and wireless charging for the 4,385mAh battery.

Google promises the thinnest and best camera foldable phone with Pixel Fold

Launching at a rather steep $1,799, the Google Pixel Fold promises some big things for its first foldable smartphone, starting with the most durable hinge on a foldable, the best camera on a foldable phone, and the thinnest foldable of all.

Measuring 79.5x139.7x12.1mm when in its 5.8-inch unfolded form, and folding out to a 7.6-inch 158.7mm wide phone/tablet, the Google Pixel Fold is certainly impressive. Both screens are OLED type with the external one with FHD+ 2092x1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1200nits of brightness, HDR, and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The internal one, or the big one, is also an OLED screen with a 6:5 aspect ratio, 2208x1840 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1450nits of peak brightness, HDR, and Ultra Thin Glass with a protective plastic layer.

As expected, the Pixel Fold is powered by the Google Tensor G2 with Titan M2 security coprocessor, paired up with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The rear camera system includes a 48MP main quad PD sensor with OIS and f/1.7 aperture lens, backed by two 10.8MP sensors, one ultrawide and one telephoto, with 5x optical zoom and Super Res Zoom up to 20x. The "front camera" is a 9.5MP dual PD and an f/2.2 lens and the inner camera is an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 lens.

It features all the usual connectivity options and Google is certainly doing a lot to optimize Android to make use of the foldable design. You can check out more details in the video below. The Pixel Fold comes with a 4821mAh battery with 30W charging. 

Now, we do not know if Google Pixel Fold will deliver on those promises, but with a $1,799 price tag, it certainly should, but the display crease was already visible in the presentation, so it does not look good.
