With the announcement of the Snapdragon W5+, Oppo already stated that it plans to reveal its Oppo Watch 3 in August. Pankaj Kedia, senior director, product marketing, and global head of Smart Wearables, has also shared that one can expect 25 designs in the pipeline. One can expect many fashion brands to announce their Snapdragon W5-based designs in the upcoming months.
Compal and Pegatron are making reference design platforms, and one cannot escape the feeling that watches such as TicWatch / Fossil might be based on Pegatron's oval design. In contrast, Oppo's next generation watch might be based on Pegatron, iWatch-shaped watch design logic.
TicWatch 4
The next generation TicWatch gave just some general expectation hints. The company shared that the next-generation device brings extended battery life and a premium user experience. TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra has yet to receive Google Wear OS 3, which many have hoped to see much earlier in 2022. Mobvoi shared last summer that the TicWatch 3 and Pro 3 Ultra will get the Wear OS 3 in 2022, but it hasn't happened yet.
Battery life matters
The better battery life is an easy one. Due to a new 4nm manufacturing process, Qualcomm already shared that the new chipset promises a 50 percent longer battery life. With the same TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra battery size, one could get 144 hours or six days of Wear OS use out of it. TicWatch is expected to continue using two displays and two watch modes, smartwatch Wear OS and RTOS mode, and in the latter, the battery life could easily double from the current one to two months.
If the company uses the same or similar battery size (TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra has 577 mAh), the days of use can roughly double. The rumor that Samsung might be using a 600 mAh battery for Galaxy Watch 5 Pro might indicate that this is what the premium customer wants, multiple days of battery life.
The premium experience would be built on top of the Wear OS 3 features, and there is a rumor that Samsung might even get Wear OS 3.5 of its upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 / 5 Pro. Samsung uses Exynos W920 5nm chipset based on two Cortex A55 cores instead of four Cortex A53 used by Qualcomm's W5+ chipset.
Traditionally Mobvoi is launching watches in early Q4, but we will have to wait until they decide to share the launch date with the world.
