Intel's upcoming Core i9-12900HK mobile CPU, and has now revealed the first benchmarks which reveal Apple’s 10-core M1 Max to be an asthmatic ant by comparison.  The results show Intel's mobile CPU outperforming Apple's flagship 10-core M1 Max, which also integrates a 32-core GPU and 64GB of unified memory.

In these latest tests, the Core i9-12900HK outperforms the M1 Max on both single-core and multi-core rankings and while the Tame Apple Press points out the margins are slim what is not being said is that there is little reason for Intel’s mobile chip to be sitting on the cool kids’ table. In fact, it might have only got such high benchmarks by sucking up more power than a Pink Floyd concert.

While the Tame Apple Press focuses on the chip daring to beat Apple’s scores it is more significant that Intel is even in the running with the technology it is touting.  Apple’s M1 Max is the latest and best Jobs’ Mob can offer, while Alder Lake is generally a couple of years behind and simply waiting to be put out of its misery when AMD releases its Zen 4.

The benchmark is jolly bad news for the Apple design teams who are looking a lot more on the back foot.
