5G multi year marriage

Not only has Qualcomm just signed a cross license agreement with Samsung that resulted in the halt of Samsung’s legal battle against the company, the two giants have just announced a multi-year strategic relationship agreement. Both Samsung and Qualcomm have problems with Apple and a Broadcom hostile takeover.

The agreement between Samsung and Qualcomm covers various technology areas across a range of mobile devices and it expands the companies’ long standing technology and business relations for years to come. Of course this strategic relation should help both to transition to 5G.

One might think that people sound like a broken record about the importance of 5G, but since we spent quite some time over the last three years learning about the importance of this technology, it is safe to say that 5G will change the world as you know it. 4G changed the way we use our phones and 5G will change the way we use our cars, roads, infrastructure, IoT and even external storage.

Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated, said: “The announcement today underscores the importance of our longstanding strategic relationship with Samsung in driving core mobile technology into many different segments. As Qualcomm continues to lead the world to 5G, the opportunities between our companies are growing and this agreement sets us both on a path for continued success.”

TM Roh, executive vice president and the head of mobile R&D, Samsung Electronics, said: “We value our strategic relationship with Qualcomm Technologies. And look forward to working together to deliver leading technologies in the years ahead.”
