Terry says there might be around 3.5 billion connected devices currently on our networks and this number is going to jump to between 20 and 30 billion over the course of the next few years.
During the event, he mentioned that Snapdragon 820 is doing really well and that the reviews have been very favorable. Asus just announced three new phones with Snapdragon processors - the Snapdragon 820-based Zenfone 3 Deluxe, Snapdragon 652-based Zenfone 3 Ultra, and the Snapdragon 625-based Zenfone 3. This is a big local win for Qualcomm, as Asus previously used Intel SoCs for a majority of its products. Since Intel announced its departure from the SoC phone market, Qualcomm swept in to grab these design wins as well.
Qualcomm announced that Snapdragon 820 won 115 design wins across the whole mobile ecosystem and that there will be more Snapdragon 820 phones to launch towards the end of the year.
There is no doubt that Qualcomm did a good job with its quad-core based Snapdragon 820, a quite unique solution that packs a lot of wireless innovations including the Snapdragon X12 ultra-fast modem as well as network technologies such as 802.11ac and even the brand new 802.11ad standard.
The best part is that with Xiaomi and Asus Snapdragon 820 design wins bring top-notch design into a more affordable space, which is great news for markets that are more budget-aware.
