A 127MB update called iOS 8.1 is out for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users and as soon as you install it you will be able to use Apple Pay. This feature works only in the US for now but there is a chance that it will expand to other parts of the world soon.
We have seen Google Wallet in action, but this feature really never went mainstream while Apple has a big chance of reaching mainstream consumers, especially in the North American market. The update also includes access to iCloud Photo library beta as well as support for SMS messaging on iPad and Mac. We find that SMS messaging from your favourite device will be a nice feature to have and that it potentially can lock more people into Apple ecosystem. Back in 2009 Apple started the ad campaign in Holland, love iPhone buy Mac and today some 5 years later, you can tell that the strategy paid off.
Instant hotspot is also something that will be loved by Apple users, as it will automatically connect your Mac or iPad to your phone's internet connection as soon as you are out of WiFi range. Apple has fixed some issues with WiFi performance, improved stability and fixed some camera, SMS, Safari and voice bugs caught in previous releases. The update will fix some annoying bugs including the one that caused read messages to not be marked as read, an issue that could prevent connections to Bluetooth hands-free devices, bugs that could cause screen rotation to stop working, an issue in Safari where videos would sometimes not play.
The update is yours to have and iPads are getting the iOS 8.1 update, too. You will need this one in order to use Touch ID and Apple Pay on compatible Apple devices.
