Troubled mobile phone outfit BlackBerry is to kill off plans to launch two models which it thinks that no one will want. The company wrote off just shy of $1 billion in unsold mobiles in the third quarter of the last financial year, and lost a total of $2 billion.

The two phones will never see the light of day were low-cost phones aimed at emerging markets. Blackberry is apparently worried they will just add to the number of useless phones stashed in its warehouses. It is part of a lot of cost cutting that Blackberry has been doing lately.

Foxconn will make a device, codenamed Jakarta, in April. BlackBerry still has some high-end mobiles in the works too. According to the source, devices codenamed Ontario and Windermere are on the way.
