Nvidia said it had discovered a “mechanical issue” in the device and promptly pinned the blame on third party component providers, which can’t be that hard since the device isn’t manufactured by Nvidia itself. The first retail consoles are now slated to ship in July, which means we are looking at anything from a one-week to a four-week delay.
Last week Nvidia slashed the price of the upcoming console from $349 to $299, which makes it a bit cheaper than high-end tablets based on similar chips. However, we still don’t believe Nvidia is actually trying to make any serious money with Shield, at least not in its first generation.
It comes across as a guinea pig and it might pave the way for other Nvidia branded devices, based on Tegra chips.
