Sharp starts churning out 5-inch 1080p displays
Razor sharp, pardon the pun
It might very well sound like overkill, but Sharp has started production of full HD 5-inch smartphone displays.
Two million pixels cramped on a 5-inch display translates into 443ppi, more than enough to fool the human eye into being unable to distinguish individual pixels.
A few weeks Chinese phone maker Oppo announced the first 1080p phone and 5-inch 1080p phablets from LG and HTC are said to be on the way too.
Current flagship Android phones feature 1280x720 screens, with a few 1280x800 and 1280x768 phones in the mix as well. However, are 1080p screens worth the effort? Perhaps in 5-inch phablets, but for anything in the 4 to 4.5-inch range they don’t really make much sense.
