The latest update to its iOS operating system appears to have some interesting coding which seems to indicate that the iPhone 5 will come with a dual core A5 chip.

Buried in the code was signs that Apple is testing dual-core processors in the next version of the iPhone. While it is know that the iPad 2 is the first iOS device to ship with the A5, history suggests that the chip was likely to head into the iPhone5 as well.

Of course there was no way to prove this, until  Chronic Dev group member Chronic, iOS developer Filippo Bigarella  found mention of "N94AP" in the update. This is an Apple code name for a yet-to-be-released iPhone. The software then linked N94AP with another codename "S5L8940," which is the A5.

While this could mean that iPhone5  will sport a dual-core processor it could also mean that Apple wanted to test the two things together. Still it does bode well for the idea of a smartphone with a dual core processor.
