We have told you about the upcoming Sony Ericsson gaming smartphone that is coming. Sources suggest to us that it is likely that Sony and Ericsson are planning to show it off at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

Of course, it would be nice to put a name with this new offering; and if the recent domain and trademark registrations are any indication, the new gaming smartphone offering will likely be called the Xperia Play.

While the Sony Ericsson gaming smartphone is going by the codename “Z1” it does seem that it is inching closer to release. From the whispers we hear, the February announcement at the Mobile World Congress seems to fit with what we are thinking.
