Samsung has announced that it has managed to ship 5 million Galaxy S smartphones over the past three and a half months.
Although Apple managed to ship three million iPhone 4 units in the first month of sales, the success of the Galaxy S is still impressive and perhaps even a bit surprising.
The Galaxy S is Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone. It packs a 4-inch Super AMOLED 800x480 display, 1GHz processor and it bears a striking resemblance to Apple’s first generation iPhone, although it’s a bit thinner.
It’s also worth noting that the Galaxy S has just launched in Japan, where it will be carried by Docomo. The handset is still not available in many smaller markets, despite the fact that it launched in mid-July.
