Palm Treo 800w shows up at Sprint
Quiet launch is not what we expected
The word is out that the new Palm Treo 800w showed up on Sprint as available for pre-order. The new 800w, which is powered by Windows Mobile, is the replacement for the previous generation of Windows Mobile Treo that Palm offered.
The Treo 800w is best described as something akin to a cross between the Centro and the older versions of the Treo. The 800w is thinner and more compact than previous Treo models and it will come in a dark slate blue finish rather than the silver finish that Palm has used on Treo models in the past.
According to initial reports, users that have already gotten their hands on the 800w are pretty happy with the purchase and performance. Of course, the price of the 800w isn’t going to set the world on fire, but it does appear that interest in the Treo phones does remain somewhat high due to the rather large installed base of companies using the Treo in corporate environments.
The Treo 800w features a 320x320 display, EV-DO Rev. A, WiFi and GPS, whith the GPS being the big news here. From what we see there is little else new here with the 800w, but if you like the Treo and want to upgrade it could be worth checking out. It's available for US$249.99 after an instand $250 rebate and an additional $100 mail-in rebate if you sign up for a two year contract.
