This Tuesday, Nokia announced support for Microsoft’s Silverlight video technology in many of its handsets. Silverlight will initially be available for S60 software platforms and it will be followed by support for S40, that’s used in many cheaper phones.

Silverlight is a rival to Adobe's Flash technology and although this deal doesn't look good for Adobe, Nokia's spokesman, Mark Durrant, claims that they'll continue to support Flash and several other technologies.

S60 software is built on Symbian’s OS and found in many advanced cell phones from Nokia, LG Electronics and Samsung and its closest rival is Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS that currently holds just over 10 percent of the market.
