SuperTalent has announced the fastest DDR3 memory modules yet at 1,600MHz with a rated latency of 7-7-7-18 at 1.8V. The model number of these new modules is W1600UX2G7 and this is a 2GB kit with an expected retail price of US$648.
According to the press release, some of these kits have hit speeds of 2GHz in the labs and each DIMM is using eight 128Mbit chips which means that these are single sided modules.
Also announced was the W1600UX2G9 and W1333UB2G8 kits. The W1600UX2G7 is another 1,600MHz DDR3 2GB kit, but this time with a latency of 9-9-9-21, although this kit has a lower retail price at $598, still far from affordable.
The W1333UB2G8 is a single 2GB module and as the name suggests, it is clocked at 1,333MHz and has a latency of 8-8-8-18 and it retails for $417. A pair of these would be rather expensive indeed and with these kind of price premiums, it's no wonder that DDR2 is the choice of most motherboard manufacturers.
