HP has released a line of "green" storage products which earn the title because they require half the power and cooling of other systems.

Basically the systems are based around blade servers including one which has a tape drive. Some of the savings have been made with performance enhancements for the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family, tape drives based on the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) four standard and new DAT 160 tape drives.

HP's chief executive and chairman, Mark Hurd, said that being green was great for the environment and great for costs too.
