Samsung
announced new and improved 1.8-inch Solid State Drives based on an 8Gbit single level cell (SLC) NAND which
provides up to fifty per cent performance increase over its predecessor.
Drive capacity is improved from 32GB to 64GB. Rated speeds for read and write are 65MB/sec and
45MB/sec respectively. New drives consumes minimal power as they are made without any moving parts. They will be an ideal solution for upcoming notebooks where battery life is essential.
Mass production starts in the second quarter of this year. Price is still unknown but if it will be lower than previous models it would be decent replacement for conventional magnetic hard drives.
