Intel surprised us all with its announcement of three different versions of Solid state drives. Don’t get too excited as these drives won’t get that big. Intel plans to presents Z-U130 Value solid state drives with USB interface a 1, 2, 4 and 8 GB version.
Intel thinks
that there is a market for these devices in Value PCs, routers, servers, gaming
market and industrial applications. It can also use these devices for point of
sale terminals. The company claims better performance and reliability and many
of you might know that Intel has big NAND product groups and many factories
that can produce such a device.
This small
device should read at 28 MB per second and write at 20 MB per second rate. These
drives are USB 2.0 and 1.1 compliant and 2x5 USB connector will make it easy to
integrate such a drive in a design.
It looks
small at least on picture but bear in mind that you can bug a 16 GB USB stick
and do the same thing for quite some time. The company didn’t comment the pricing
details.
