Helio P20 powered shipping May 1st

MediaTek scored with last year’s Sony Xperia XA powered by the Helio P10 and it looks like its successor, the Sony Xperia XA1 powered by the Helio P20, will ship in the US as early as next week.

First of many

ElePhone is planning to launch s large number of new phones in the next few months including the three-side bezel-less Elephone S8. This first Helio X30 powered smartphone with 10nm deca-core SoC is called the X8 Lite.

With high-end Helio X20 SoC inside

The Elephone S7 launched roughly a year ago, and it packed a MediaTek Helio X20 MTK6797 SoC, 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. The successor of this phone, called the Elephone S8, comes with a three-side bezel-less screen and an updated specification. 

Newcomer brand

It looks like that the main theme from China-based manufacturers for 2017 are the bezel-less phones. The new player called Maze is planning a phone with a tiny bezel. The phone resembles the now famous Xiaomi Mi Mix and there is no fix launch date for this product. 

In line with own prophecies of woe 

As we expected, MediaTek's first quarter revenues fell 18 percent sequentially but came in line with the company's warning that things would be a little dire.

MediaTek expects a poor first quarter

MediaTek thinks that its smartphone chip shipments will fall below 100 million units in the first quarter of 2017 and rebound only slightly to 110-120 million in the second quarter.

Dramatic jump from Helio X20

MediaTek is expected to bring the Helio X30 deca-core in 10nm based devices to the market in the next few months and we've already got some initial numbers where the company compares the X30 with last years Helio X20. 

Catching up, fingers crossed strategy

TSMC is currently manufacturing the MediaTek 10nm, deca core based Helio X30 and it looks like in 2018, TSMC might be ready for 7nm and twelve core SoCs from the same house.
