We told you briefly here that dual RV770XT card codenamed R700 comes with 2GB memory but now we can confirm that Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the official name.
The volume production of R700 GDDR5 boards starts on July 28th while the card should be available in August 2008. ATI plans to sell BBA boards (Built By ATI) and the partners will buy a complete board including fan at least for the time being.
The board with 2GB GDDR5 might not be that cheap but the 1GB
version is also be possible. ATI hopes to capture the performance crown and it
has the best chance since years. An ATI VP already told us that according to
internal testing R700 should end up faster than current flagship Geforce GTX
280.
