Plasma TVs
are sending home power bills sky high, according to the Sydney Morning
Herald.
According
to recent statistics although electric hot-water systems remain the
No.1 energy guzzler in the home, plasma TVs are overtaking
refrigerators
and freezers as a greenhouse gas culprit.
Plasma
televisions can add about 30 Euro to electricity bills. Plasma
screens use four times more electricity and more standby power.
The ACF
Green Home campaigner Clare Donovan said a 68-centimeter cathode TV consumed
98 watts of energy costing 1.18 cents an hour. A 100-centimeter
LCD TV cost 214 watts and 2.6 cents an hour and a 106 cm plasma
screen used 350 watts at 4.2 cents an hour.
