360mm AiO cooler and flagship features

Asus held its Computex 2023 event announcing the new flagship ROG Matrix RTX 4090 graphics card that features a rather unique design with an AiO cooler that features a custom full-cover water block and 360mm radiator.

Asus kicked off the ROG Matrix lineup with the RTX 2080 Ti series back in 2019, and it was meant to push the custom design to a whole new level, with high-end features, a special cooler, and, of course, a high price tag that comes with the territory.

While Asus has yet to give out all the details about the ROG Matrix RTX 4090, it did talk about that special AiO cooler, which features a custom coldplate that covers the GPU, VRMs, as well as memory chips, allowing users to push clock not only higher but also hold those same clocks longer.

The Asus ROG Matrix RTX 4090 is also the first graphics card that uses a liquid metal thermal compound, and since it is electrically conductive, it brings a lot of challenges. Since Asus has been using liquid metal thermal compound on its ROG laptops, it has a patented production process that can safely use liquid metal even for vertical-mounted GPUs. Asus actually applies a UV resin above the surface-mounted capacitors that border the GPU die, and then adds two additional protective layers between the die and the main PCB, which prevents any leakage of liquid metal.

The 360mm radiator uses ROG MF-12S ARGB fans, which are daisy-chainable via a magnetic connector for both power and signal, allowing them to sync up. According to Asus, these fans spin at less than 1000 RPM to keep the GPU operating at just 60°C under its 450W TGP, which is quite impressive.

The card also features a Dual BIOS switch for Quiet and Performance modes, uses a high-end manufacturing process and highest quality components, something that you would expect from a ROG Matrix graphics card.

Asus did note that this is a limited-edition card, available for sale in Q3, and rumors around the show floor put it at close to $2000.
