According to Jon Peddie Research, Nvidia shipped 22.2 million PC GPUs in Q3, a 19.6 increase over the second quarter. Its market share went up from 14.8 percent to 18.5 percent. Meanwhile Intel and AMD lost ground. Intel’s shipments dropped by 8 percent to 71.7 million, while AMD managed to ship 25.4 million. AMD’s market share dropped from 22.7 to 21.2 percent.
However, overall GPU shipments in Q3 fell 4.3 percent sequentially. Compared to Q3 2011, shipments are down by 20 million units, so while Nvidia has something to celebrate, the industry as a whole has seen better days. In fact, all three companies saw their shipments fall compared to last year.
Analysts believe GPU shipments will increase 3.6 percent between 2011 and 2016, hitting a total of 608 million units in 2016.
