One would expect that now at the eve of Fermi, Geforce GTX 480 / 470 launch, demand for ATI 5000 series products would at least slow down.
Graphics cards manufacturers who are
selling both Nvidia and ATI are confirming that 58x0 and 59x0 series of ATI
care are still selling great and of course the cheaper 5000 series such as 57x0
and slower also didn’t slow up in sales.
The 57x0 series and below will definitely
end up unaffected with Fermi launch as the price difference is too big and it
will be months before you can buy cards based on Fermi in sub-$200 or sub-$100
range.
This is one of the reasons why ATI still
keeps quite high prices even though it has been six months since it launched its first DirectX 11 cards. However, up to
this very day, Nvidia doesn’t have anything to compete with. Fermi volume availability
has been pushed back to mid-April and bear in mind that by Q4 2010 ATI and Nvidia
should have a new graphics card generation out.
