Nvidia working on Optimus
Something for notebook platforms
In addition to the CES 2010 and, of course, Fermi, Nvidia is working on a new piece of technology for Q1 that will supposedly improve the notebook platform with Nvidia GPUs, the Nvidia Optimus.
Other than a rather catchy name in these times of Transformers movies, Nvidia didn't release any hard details about it except for a hint that it will be "seamless and transparent to the user" and will "optimize the mobile experience by letting the user get the performance of discrete graphics from a notebook while still delivering great battery life".
Whether or not will this affect all notebooks that have Nvidia's GPUs, or some, or the upcoming ones, is still left to be seen, but we heard "power and long battery life" claims too many times before. All of these nice marketing words are great but until we see any hard numbers we'll stick to Fermi hunting, at least for now.
