Radeon HD 4770 is TSMC’s first 40nm chip, and at the same time, it was a pilot chip for ATI. Naturally, after this first 40nm, there will be a new army of chips to follow but the first 40nm chip is selling quite well.
ATI is selling all chips and cards it can get, as the demand
is high and the volumes are not that great either. ATI still has HD 4850 and
HD 4830 cards to fill the sales gap, but at least they managed to challenge and
compromise Nvidia’s Geforce 9800GT and 9600GT sales.
RV740 40nm, or Radeon HD4770 was very important as ATI
learned a lot from it for its future RV870 generation that should be coming
later this year.
