Nvidia has answered a rather interesting question about the forecasted 40nm market share by the end of this year. The 40nm process is ramping up quickly,
Nvidia says and Jensen Huang expects that mix towards end of the year to be 25
to 30 percent 40nm, while the rest should be 55nm.
He explains that many chips will remain 55nm simply as some
important chips such as MCP79, also known as Geforce 9400 and Ion, are 55nm, and
it will remain 55nm in this year and they expect some serious sales from this
chip.
In the graphics world, we can imagine that there will be many
55nm legacy products, but many 40nm chips to launch will go into notebooks, as
Nvidia wants to grow there.
So, 40nm is real, coming and should become very important in
the next few quarters.
