RV790 cards are shortly going into production and we have learned that RV790 Asic doesn’t have the same pin layout out as the RV770.
At first we believed it's the same chip, just tuned slightly faster, but then we got an information that RV790 is a new chip with RV770 fundamentals done better.
The PCB and the pin layout will be different for RV790 and
we also heard that the new board will have two power connectors, one 6-pin and
one 8-pin, but this doesn’t come as surprise as 4870 has two.
The RV790 chip is not pin compatible with RV770 boards, so
partners will have to change the layout of the boards to accommodate the new
chip. Radeon HD 4890 is the most spoken possible brand, but knowing ATI's current GPU management, this can change in a blink of an eye, at least until the boxes are produced.
