Every so often, we find ourselves comfortably sitting back
in our leather chairs to enjoy a complete run of Futuremark's popular 3DMark
benchmarking utility.
Nevertheless, the anticipation
that builds for the final point score to display on the desktop is exciting
for some (Not really. sub.ed.). Yet with so many PC gamers,
hardware enthusiasts and extreme overclocking teams rapidly competing for point
dominance, we are left wondering just how large the increasing online benchmark
data has grown to be.
Today, Futuremark Corporation has proudly announced that its
online ORB database has reached a milestone of 30 million 3DMark and PCMark
benchmark results. According to recent
statistics, one new benchmarking result is added to the company's online
results database every 4 seconds on average, making it the world’s largest
source of PC system comparison data. The
ORB, as it is known, has been collecting
scores since March 2001.
Nevertheless, the long lasting popularity of 3DMark
signifies its importance of performance PC testing to explore the limits of
hardware and software. "We’re very
proud to celebrate 10 years of our flagship product by reaching this milestone
of 30 million results," said Tero Sarkkinen, the company's CEO. Moreover, it can be expected that Futuremark
is working on a next generation of benchmarking tools to keep its ORB database
the world leader in comparative PC benchmarking.
