According to Jon Peddie research, Q3 GPU sales are defying the economic slowdown and showing healthy growth. In Q3 manufacturers shipped 111 million GPUs, an 18 percent increase compared to Q3 2007. This constitutes the largest increase in shipments in six years.
In the desktop market Intel is still on top, with a 43.9% share, Nvidia is in second, although its share slipped to 32.6%. ATI did great with a 20.3% share. Quarter to quarter, ATI grew 33.8% over Q3 2007, while Nvidia grew by just 4.4%.
The desktop market grew rather slowly, 4.7% this quarter to 61.9 million units. The notebook market, on the other hand, shows impressive 40% growth quarter to quarter for a total off 49.4 million units, or 44.4% of the market.
