38,366,479 concurrent players at once

Steam has set a new record with 38,366,479 concurrent players online.

This milestone, achieved on 22 September 2024, surpasses the previous record by a million.  According to IGN, the surge was driven by the release of Black Myth: Wukong.

Top 10 games included Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Banana, and PUBG. New entries like Black Myth: Wukong, Satisfactory 1.0, Space Marine 2, and Deadlock also contributed.

PlayStation exclusives God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 16 launched on Steam, provided a modest boost.

Steam’s dominance in the PC market continues to grow, overshadowing competitors like Epic Games Store and GOG. The Steam Deck is likely further expanding Steam’s reach.

The question remains: can Steam reach 40 million concurrents? The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 release might make it possible.
