Mark Rubin confirmed the news on his Twitter feed this evening, but went on to say that the game is optimized to take advantage of each system and it looks great on both. The news isn’t surprising as we have seen the use of upconversion before to optimize the performance and playability of a title.
Ghosts isn’t the only game that apparently is being rendered a lower resolution and then upconverted on the Xbox One. While it has not been officially confirmed by DICE, it is believed that the Xbox One version of Battlefield 4 also is being rendered at 720p and upconverted to 1080p. It is believed however that the PlayStation 4 version is being rendered at between 900p and 1080p.
Does it really make that much of a difference? Well, not to most of those playing the game and it is unlikely that they will be able to tell much of a difference at 60fps. Now from a marketing perspective, it is likely that this will be played up to the hilt. Of course many will immediately wonder if this is a problem with Xbox One’s design or choices in architecture configuration, but that is a question that will have to be answered as time goes on.
