The new Wii U Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze title will not make its original December release as planned. Nintendo confirmed that the game would be delayed till early 2014 and while no specific date was announced, it is now expected that it will arrive in February 2014 according to sources.

The reason for the delay according to Nintendo is to five developer Retro Studios additional time to polish the game to deliver an optimum gameplay experience for fans. Tropical Freeze is a follow up to the 2010 Donkey Kong Country Return title.

The news of the delay could not be worse for Nintendo who needs new games to help the Wii U which isn’t getting a lot of new games. This was supposed to be one of Nintendo’s big titles for the Wii U this holiday season and the decision to delay the title could not have been an easy one for Nintendo.
