For the time being, Trion isn’t saying much, other than they are watching how these new consoles develop and what kind of installed user base the two systems are able to attract. Still, while the developer has no plans for console support at the present time, sources say that the enhanced backend online infrastructure does make it possible for MMO developers to port their titles to the new next-generation console systems, and that has not gone unnoticed by Trion.
Sources tell us that while Trion is not committed to porting Rift to either console yet, it would be likely at least a year before they would consider doing so. However, the fact that Elder Scrolls Online and Final Fantasy XIV are both coming to the PlayStation 4 next year does seem to indicate that MMOs on the next-generation consoles are something we are going to see more of over time.
