Known for his contributions to Doom and Quake as well as some Epic failures along the way, John Romero is apparently working toward some sort of a deal with publisher Square-Enix, according to a cryptic Facebook post that said as much. What is not clear is if it is a new deal or project or perhaps just a deal for his social games studio known as Loot Drop.

Could it be that Romero is getting ready to develop a new high profile triple A title? Our sources say that while it is of course possible, they think something more like a mobile app or social gaming is where his interests have been recently. While Romero could attract a lot of attention to a new triple A project, we are just not so sure that he wants to enter that world again.

We will just have to wait and see what kind of announcement comes out of these meetings, but don’t be surprised if there is some sort of a deal that we will not hear about till E3.
