New NBA Jam likely for Wii
In the early stages of planning at EA
It seems that the wishes on modern version of NBA Jam 2 vs. 2 basketball finally returning are coming true as the game is actually in the early planning stages of development. According to our sources, the former Midway arcade game is in the process of being resurrected by EA Sports Canada for release on the Wii.
Sources also indicate that game creator Mark Turmell has been brought in by EA Sports Canada to consult on the project. While with the demise of Midway, it is hard to know who exactly owns the rights to the NBA Jam name, but if they don’t have plans for it this could be a good way for the owner of the IP to make a buck from it.
With the releases of the NHL 3 on 3 arcade hockey title and the Madden arcade football title, it does seem like a very good fit for Electronic Arts to develop NBA Jam which does fit nicely into their online offerings. While we hear that the initial release will be targeted at the Wii, no one seems to want to rule out the possibility that the game could be released at some point on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well.
