The influential Christian group the Maine Christian Civic
League has called for Modern Warfare 2 to be banned. The outfit said the game was too violent and "any
decent citizen" ought to ban it.
"There is a well-established cause and effect
relationship between video games and school shootings, and parents of some of
the victims have sued video game makers. Mercifully, our own state has been
spared the occurrence of any school shootings, but the danger is growing with
each passing day," the group wrote on its blog. "The ready availability of drugs, violent video
games, and outrageous rock music is a witch's brew which will eventually lead
to tragedy."
The outfit claims that the best course is to have a large
fire and decent citizens should burn copies of the game in public. After all it
is what Jesus would have wanted. The groups statement was given pride of place by Fox
News, which suggested that there's "nothing to stop that kid from playing
it and becoming a terrorist ... on a video game."
True, but there is nothing to stop them being a clean
living American defending his country either. We guess it just depends on the
quality of your soul.
