The text of a recent press release from Microsoft seems to confirm the existence of players being able to step into the boots of the Spartan IIIs in Halo Reach. This does seem to run afoul of the accepted Halo canon. (We will not bore you with all of the details of the Halo universe; just take our word for it.)

The bottom line is that the Spartan III does seem to be a part of Halo Reach in some way, we are just not quite sure how. Microsoft does seem to be backpedaling a bit; and according to various reports, has been rather smug when asked about the appearance of the Spartan III on the press release. While the company has had no additional comment, they have indicated that the press release was accurate and didn’t contain any typos.

I guess you could call all of this confirming it without actually confirming it. Still, it does seem to leave a lot of questions about the Halo Reach story, which is likely still a long way from being answered. We will have to wait and see.
