CryTek recently announced a change in
plans for its release strategy of the sequel to the 2007 Game of the Year.
Rather than being limited to only PC users, and mostly those enthusiasts with
adequate hardware power for the immersive Crysis experience, the sequel will be
a multi-platform release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
The release will most likely be
simultaneous across all three platforms at once and the factor making this all
possible is the new source engine currently underway, CryENGINE 3.
Some of the technology highlights that we can expect include Deferred
Rendering, Deferred Lighting, Realtime Dynamic Global Illumination and Uber
Shader technology among other graphics technologies. The full engine features
document can be found here.
“The development of Crysis 2 marks a
major stepping stone for our studio,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of
Crytek, in a statement. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis
franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first
title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA
Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge
event.”
