A developer from Beautiful Game Studios, Roy Meredith, recently stated how their game Championship Manager is subject to a 90% piracy rate. We’re not quite sure how it was measured but it makes us wonder whether anyone bought the game at all.
Piracy is an ever-growing problem for developers, and World of Goo makers will definitely concur, but there’s only so much that the company can do about it. After all, torrent sites and file-sharing make walks to the store obsolete.
Meredith admitted that introducing DRM measures usually hurts a legal user more than an actual pirate, so they’re not too keen on implementing it. However, if piracy makes a trend out of these steep rates, it just might make or break many smaller companies.
