Id Software's
John Carmack showed a new engine, and a project called "id tech 5", that ran on Mac OS X and has been captured on a shaky cam, but even on the low quality video it looks really good. We already wrote about it here.
According to John Carmack's words the engines creator, "While shown for the very first time running in real time on a Mac, id Tech 5 additionally supports the Xbox 360 and Playstation3 console platforms as well as the PC, and will be available for licensing to developers and publishers interested in working with a truly next generation rendering and game development solution."
Also Carmack hinted a bit more about the project when he said that they are "diverting a little bit from the standard id formula and it's not just a first-person shooter" and that gameplay "is somewhat different from anything that we've done before".
Things are looking bright for Id Software and we can just hope that we won't wait too long before the new project's official announcement. You can check out the footage on Gamespot or Gameplanets.
