The big OEM's could not wait for 65 nanometre versions of the RV630 and RV610 and they placed an order for 80 nanometre chips.
Early birds such as Fujitsu Siemens,
Dell and HP already placed a loads of orders for these 80 nanometre parts. Later
machines from these big OEM's will be replaced with 65 nanometre parts but this
wont happen till the production ramps up.
This finally proves that ATI actually
had two teams designing 80 and 65 nanometre chips and it looks like the 65
nanometre team did the job well and probably even before the schedule. Anyhow, the
Add in boards cards will all be 65 nanometre so, end users should not be worried
about 80 nanometre chips.
