We had a chance to see Hybrid SLI in action. It works on the 780a motherboard and, according to Nvidia's plan, it was scheduled to launch in the last days of Q1. We also learned that it will slip to Q2.
We had a chance to see it and try it for a short time and our first impression was that it takes a long time to turn off the graphics card.
In the current driver, you need to manually shut down your graphics card(s) and after you enable this option, it takes a few seconds until it happens. We believe it should be instant and that the computer should be able to switch modes automatically.
It looks like a driver issue and this is something that Nvidia can improve over time, but it doesn’t look very polished, at least not today.
At the same time, Nvidia is working on an Intel version of the chipset/marchitecture and has scheduled it for Q2 2008.
