Sources close to Nvidia have confirmed that Nforce 680i won’t be working with Yorkfield 45nm quad core CPUs but it will work with Wolfdale 45nm dual core.

We learned that the 45nm quad core takes care of power differently and Nvidia would have to re-work the motherboard to make them work on 680i. A few hardware modifications are necessary to make it work and this simply won’t happen.

Well, as 780i chipset with a few new features launches today, 680i will never get to work with Yorkfield. Naturally, the new 780i motherboard will have full support for both Wolfdale and Yorkfield.
