Pentium B987 tips up in Acer lappies
Low voltage 1.5GHz dual-core
Intel is gearing up to introduce a new low-voltage Pentium mobile chip in Q3 and the new part has already tipped up in a couple of Acer notabooks.
The Pentium B987 is a 1.5GHz dual-core chip with 2MB of L3 cache and it appears to be paired up with the HM70 chipset, which indicates that it is a 32nm Sandy Bridge part.
CPU World is reporting that the B987 should ship sometime in Q3, but we already came across a couple of listings, so it should probably show up sooner rather than later. The B987 ended up in Acer’s Aspire One 756 netbook, priced at €399, and we also caught a glimpse of it in the affordable 14-inch Aspire V5, listed here.
Although the B987 won’t break any speed records, it should offer good value and battery life. I know for a fact that one of our editors is still clinging to his old 13-incher based on a CULV Pentium clocked at 1.3GHz, so it seems to be working out pretty well for him. [Dirt cheap, two years old and I still get about four hours of battery life out of it, so yes it is. sub.ed]
