Acer's 13-inch Aspire S3 has already gone on sale in Finland and Hong Kong, priced at €799 to €1,199. Asus will kick off with two models, the 11.6-inch UX21 and the 13-inch UX31. Both are slated for launch on October 11 at prices starting at €799 and $999.
According to Digitimes, Acer and Asus expect to ship about 200,000 units in Q4, which doesn’t sound like much. It amounts to about 2,200 units per day, not much for three models from two vendors. As for other vendors, they don’t seem to keen to enter the market just yet.
Toshiba and Lenovo have already shown some ultrabook designs, but they are not expected to enter mass production until late Q4 or early 2012. HP hopes to ship its ultrabooks in early 2012, while Dell hasn’t revealed any plans to enter the market, at least not for now.
