ATI introduced XGP, or Lasso, its first ever external graphics card that needed a
special proprietary connector and was only available with a single Fujitsu Siemens
notebook.
The dream
continues and now its Acer’s turn to introduce a Radeon HD 5x00 series
DirectX 11 graphics card. Acer's latest Ferrari has the possibility of supporting HD5x00 series external graphics.
This really
suits this small notebook well and despite its quite big size, the latest external
graphics card is quite mild. Unfortunately this product will need an external monitor
to connect to and we are not aware of the possibility of accelerating the
notebook 3D graphics on the notebook display. Last time we asked we told that
this is extremely complicated to do.
In an ATI demo we could see three displays running of this external 5 series
mobile graphics.
