We solved a big mystery. Our own Slobodan Simic was told by industry sources that ION won’t be compatible with Pine-trail M or D platforms, and after talking with Nvidia, we can officially confirm it.
There is a catch. The original ION, the one that is in market right now is a chipset, MCP and since Pinetrail-M and D platforms already have Northbridge part of chipset inside of the CPU, you couldn’t simply use "ION one" and connect it to a Pinetrail platform.
There is no reason for panic, as Nvidia has a next generation
ION that will fully support Pinetrail-M netobook and Pinetrail-D nettop –
desktop platforms. The good thing is that the next generation ION,
lets call it ION 2, will come with at least twice as many Shaders as we are
talking about a discrete chip, rather than a Northbridge part of the chipset.
